Chapter Ten

Mirabella

Mirabella was genuinely quite surprised with herself; the bow would be easier for her to use than expected.

She had really struggled with hand-to-hand combat and things like swords. She could do it; she just didn’t excel. The minute she held the bow, it had felt right.

She wasn’t great at it. She had literally just picked it up, yet if felt more natural than any other weapon.

Sabina was a good teacher. She had been harsh at first, but once she saw Mirabella was serious, and that she was listening, she lightened up.

She showed Mirabella how to hold the bow, use it quickly, and the best way to aim and fire.

Then she realised how far Mirabella could see. Her aim may not be great now, but she could see targets from quite a distance.

In a battle, Sabina said that was ideal. The further an archer could see and shoot, the less enemies that could reach them.

Plus, she would see things others wouldn’t and could warn everyone.

Next was the bit Mirabella was dreading, which was that she had to learn to shift while holding a weapon. She did not enjoy being a bird, so she had to really concentrate on what she was doing.

Her bird liked to get distracted. Like, the fact she decided to just waddle off because she felt like it. Sabina had to turn into her own bird to control her. At one point, they were chasing each other, with Sabina trying to force her back to the ground.

While in bird form, she had to remember she had to shift back and try and manipulate her weapon ready to shoot. Whilst also trying not to run off and chase something random.

Sabina told her the longer she spent in bird form, the more in tune she would become. Practice would make perfect.

That day would not be today.

By the end of their session, Sabina was starting to like her. They had even laughed. Then they went their separate ways to do what they needed to get done. In Mirabella’s case, it was to assist with inventory.

Then the night had come.

Evan had gone off to do his job, and she had been so happy when he came to see her before he left. She had spent the night worrying, and only fell asleep eventually due to exhaustion.

She hadn’t intended to wear the lingerie, yet she had felt bold, so she had done it to entice him to stay safe.

It had worked, and he had come back in the early hours of the morning, safe and sound. He had slid into bed and just held her, falling asleep with her in his arms.

In the morning, he had made love to her slowly, like he never wanted to let her go. She couldn’t ask for a better mate.

He had kissed her nose and slowly peeled off the lingerie before kissing every inch of her. He had then rolled them over so she could straddle him, sliding into her slowly, and letting her ride him.

His hands had gripped her hips, knowing full well she would speed things up if she could.
